I never thought I’d say this- but I’m addicted to dry shampoo! It’s a lifesaver that has helped me to sleep in extra late on those days when I really needed it and helped me to get ready in a flash when I’m running late. I know I’m late to the party here, but my love only started a few years ago. I was in my local Sephora and the Drybar rep was there talking up the product to the associates and customers. I was a regular (guilty) and they introduced me to her. I was complimented for my pretty relaxed curls and asked about my hair type (oily, thick and wavy). Then she asked what I was using for dry shampoo. I said none. And she just looked at me, touched my hair and said “YOU BLOW OUT YOUR HAIR EVERY DAY?!” Why yes, yes I did.
I’ve tried out multiple dry shampoos over the years and I definitely have found a few favorites! I’m currently on the hunt to find on that I can get two days out of before wanting to wash again. I always have to wash the day after dry shampooing- my head just feels so dirty and itchy! Below is a round up of all the ones I’ve tried recently, ranked from 1 (awful!) to 5 (amazing!).
Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk || Rating: 4- This is one of my favorites! Although I do tend to get those white marks they rub out easily. It has a nice refreshing clean smell that isn’t overly scented or chemically smelling. It absorbs all my nasty oils and helps my hair to stay looking clean all day. It provides a decent amount of volume- but nothing to write home about. I can manage 2 no wash days with this stuff- which I looooovee! And when I’m running my fingers through my hair I don’t come out with white powder residue all over my fingers- which I also loooovee!
Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo || Rating: 2- I had such high hopes of this one! I have read so many positive reviews and the packaging is just amazing! So I had the option to get an Amika haircare kit with the dry shampoo included as a 500 point perk from Sephora and was really excited to try it! However it didn’t work for me at all. Only a few hours after applying I looked all kinds of oily and gross again and it added no volume. BIG points for the amazing smell though! It’s like a little bit of floral and a little bit vanilla ice cream all in one.
Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo || Rating: 3- This was the first dry shampoo I tried (that Drybar rep in Sephora just sold me!) and has been a long time favorite of mine. I’ve heard some mixed reviews on the smell- but to me it just smells like a salon, which I love! This one I got in a set and it’s the new lush scent and boy is it good! It almost reminds me of baby powder. This dry shampoo just soaks up all my nasty oils so well and provides great volume! (Side note- I’ve tried the one for brunettes and it was AWFUL! It somehow made my hair look dirtier…)
Drybar Detox Whipped Foam Dry Shampoo || Rating: 4- THIS is the whole reason I decided to put a ton of dry shampoos to the test instead of buying my usual Drybar Detox. I saw this on the Drybar Instagram page and knew I needed it! And let me tell you- it’s pretty great! The scent? Amazing. Like cake. The texture? Amazing. Just like whipped cream! And the formula? Well, its amazing! But there is a learning curve. The first time I used way too much! I was thinking “My hair is oily and I have a lot of it… SO A WHOLE PALM FULL!” and I was wrong. Now I just use a squirt, separate my hair into 5 sections ear to ear and rub it into my roots and fluff until it’s dry. It adds so much volume! I’ve even tipped my head upside down and blasted it with my blow dryer (on low) while fluffing to add a little extra lift. But the best part?! I was able to use this stuff for two days in a row without feeling overly dirty! YAY!
