After seeing my Bloglovin’ and Instagram feeds blowing up with announcements of year in review posts I figured the trendy blogger thing to do was to write a 2017 recap. But nothing really happened to me in 2017. I moved, moved again and got a dog (you can read more about Molly’s adoption story here). Honestly the most exciting part was because everyone needs a cute little puppy in their life, right?! But I also launched Mia Goes Shopping.
I ended up taking an unplanned week off from blogging toward the end of December. I no longer had any posts scheduled and couldn’t find the motivation to do any outfit shoots or come up with an witty post titles. The weather has been in the negatives here lately so I’m just going to go ahead and blame my lack of motivation on that. Who really wants to get out of bed and function when it’s -10º outside?! Not me, that’s for sure.
But in that downtime I did a little research, a little reading and ultimately a lot of thinking. Looking back on my posts here on Mia Goes Shopping I realized that I have been doing a pretty horrible job of sticking to my blog mission. I launched Mia Goes Shopping in May because I wanted to make a blog that was more relatable for the average shopper. I wanted to showcase a classic, New England style (on a budget!) and to be able to share all my super budget friendly finds with the world. Because really, how many 20-somethings out there can afford a Gucci belt? I can’t- all my student loans have ruined that for me (and have forced me to be on a budget for the rest of time, but that’s another story).
But long story short is that I got too trendy. Or rather, spent too much time wanting to be trendy and trying to put out content that was similar to every other blogger. But that’s not why I’m here or why I started blogging. Frankly my most popular posts from this past year have been about things that I couldn’t find when I was searching the web.

What to expect from Mia Goes Shopping in 2018
Okay. Here we go. I have a giant list of blog post ideas just waiting to be written in the new year. Here’s a small glimpse of what I’m working on for the next few months:
Fashion Hacks || I have a long list of little tips and tricks that I have been doing forever to fix little fashion slip-ups. I used a lot of them during my retail career and customers and associates alike always loved learning new things. I’ve been hunting around Pinterest and I haven’t seen them come up, so I’m hoping they’ll be new to you and helpful! Need a hint? I have some KILLER stain remover secrets
DIYs || I am a sucker for a good DIY project. I grew up in a very crafty family and have always had that “I can make that!” mentality when shopping. I have a lot of little budget friendly projects that I use to help me save money on a variety of things. To start- I’m going to share my DIY denim distressing. Because I never buy pre-ripped jeans. I buy something that fits well and just do it myself! (You’ll be surprised at how easy it is!)
Bedroom on a Budget || Now this is going to be my favorite series of all time! Now that Sean and I are getting settled in a more permanent space I am on a mission to redecorate our bedroom in a super affordable way. I love all the chic blogger bedrooms floating around Pinterest and Instagram, but I don’t have $500 to drop on a duvet cover… do you see where I’m going with this? I’m going to blog every step as I try to fully decorate my room on a $1,000 budget.
Ways to Wear It || This comes from the years of retail and (unprofessional) personal styling. My favorite thing has always been helping people wear one item multiple different ways so they really get the most out of everything they buy. Hopefully these posts will help you (and me!) re-wear the items that you already own to make them feel like new.
and I have much more! So stay tuned
