Over a month ago I posted clips on my IG Stories of pieces I loved from this new-to-me clothing website called Shein. The pieces were so trendy and affordable and it just seemed too good to be true! I started to get some questions (mainly from my sister- I’m not special) about the website and the mixed reviews that were circling the web. But is it safe to order from? Is it a scam? Read on for my tips and tricks for shopping with Shein.
Shipping and Tracking
First off- it’s not a scam. Although I’ve only ordered once, I had no issues with charges, prices or getting the product. BUT the key thing to keep in mind is that your items are shipping from overseas. You can’t always expect a 2-day turn around to get your shipping conformation and your tracking wont be available right away. Although I got my shipment confirmation 3 days after I placed my first order, it took the tracking information 4 days to show any movement of my package and to show an estimated delivery date. If you can- I highly recommend paying for the faster shipping. If you spend over $99 your express shipping is free! I read somewhere that it can sometimes take up to 20 days to get your stuff- so fast shipping is a must!
I think the reason my items shipped so fast was because I only purchase items with the priority shipping icon. Sometimes this is a pain because there are SO many cute things that don’t have this special little truck icon. However I’m one of those people that HATES waiting for things so the sooner I can get my purchases the better! (You can see an example of this little truck detail below.)
Sizing and Quality
After reviewing my first purchases I would say the quality is similar to Forever21- but maybe a little worse. I use Shein for trendy of-the-moment pieces that I don’t need or expect to last season after season or wash after wash (fun fact- I don’t put anything I’ve purchased from Shein in the dryer. I think it makes it last longer, but that’s just me). The way I see it if I’m paying $10 for an off-the-shoulder top and I can wear it all summer long I’ve got my moneys worth out of it. Next, if there is one thing you take away from this post it should be this- the sizing is NOT consistent! Each item has completely different measurements. It’s so important while your shopping to know your top 3 measurements (bust, waist and hip) and compare them with each items before adding to your cart. I always match my largest measurement to the measurements of the item to ensure the best fit. If you hover over the size on the item detail page the specific measurements for each size will pop up!
In my first order I purchased 5 things. I’m typically a 2/4 or a small in tops and ended up ordering every size from XS to XL and they all ended up fitting great because I matched up my measurements using that nifty little tool shown above.
Another pro-tip is to look for items that have reviews or pictures so you can judge quality and fit. Although I’ve read some super unhelpful reviews on the site, it’s still nice to see what people are saying about the product. Below I’ve included some clips from my Instagram of me wearing the items that I purchased. The white OTS top that I wore in this post is also one of my Shein finds!
If you have any questions feel free to send me a message or leave a comment! I can’t wait to share my new purchases with you!
