I can’t say I’m too pleased about it- but the cold weather has arrived in New England. I’m sure we’re getting close to the first snowfall. This coat is the only reason I always look forward to the cold. It’s the best winter coat! And it’s the only coat you’ll ever need for winter.
I’ve always loved a good statement coat and I’ve wanted one for as long as I could remember. When I was living in Boston, I would always see these chic women in their amazing coats walking down Newbury street. I was dying to be one of them! But alas, the perfect coat was always out of my budget and I had to settle for whatever was on the clearance rack. Luckily as time went on I was finally able to save up and snag the coat of my dreams!
Now let me tell you why you need it
I remember the moment I saw this coat up close and personal for the first time. I was instantly obsessed! The detailing on this coat is amazing. The faux fur trim on the hood is detachable with quality snaps. Having had many faux fur trimmed jacket before, this is probably my favorite feature. Snowstorms and faux fur don’t seem to mix well as the fur tends to get all bunchy and cheap looking. So having the option to detach it is a big win in my book!
The lining is also amazing. Its a beautiful silky soft material that allows your bulky sweaters to easily glide right in the arms of the jacket. Many of the colors have a pretty contrasting lining which is an amazing pop of color that elevates the whole look! The coat also features a dual zipper. When you’re sitting or driving you can unzip the bottom to act as a vent and allow for extra movement when you need it.
Oh! The fabric. Guys let me tell you- it’s SO warm and thick you will be amazed! The official title of this coat is the Chateau Parka in Italian Stadium Cloth. How rich and fabulous does that sound?! The jacket is constructed of a super thick stadium cloth wool like those old giant wool blankets people once used to keep warm at football games. It’s made exclusively for J.Crew in a mill in Italy. How amazing is that?!
Now lets talk sizing
I’ll admit it- I actually have two of these coats. One in this beautiful reddish chestnut brown color and the other in a neutral light beige. Both are equally amazing. But one is a petite and one is a regular.
Now, I’m about 5’1″ and typically a size 2 in all J.Crew tops and bottoms.
The coat I’m wearing in this post is a 4 petite. It’s a great length and falls in the middle of my hip and knee. The fit in the body is great and I can zip it all the way up with no uncomfortable tightness in the bust. Now, the armholes are a little tight for me when I’m wearing a bulky sweater or multiple layers. The sleeves are also a little too short for my taste (I’m in the minority here- I like an extra long jacket sleeve) but still manageable.
The other one I have is a size 0. I had tried it on multiple times in store so I felt pretty confident ordering a size down from normal. Both the 2 and 0 looked good, but the 0 had a tighter and more cozy fit while still being comfortable. Now the fit is pretty similar to the 4 petite. However I have more room in the armholes for bulky sweaters and the sleeves are a tad longer (which I love!). As far as overall length goes- it’s only about an inch longer than the 4 petite.
Overall, I think I prefer the fit of the regular over the petite sizing. But that’s just me.
But seriously this is the best coat ever.
You can dress it up or down and it still looks amazing and chic! I’ve been wearing it with my Bean boots lately, but I have dressed it up plenty of times with pumps and skirts. It looks amazing both ways and eliminates the need for a dress coat and a casual coat.
